What we blast around Rockingham
Rockingham is a boat town with heavy industry next door, and the work splits almost exactly along those lines.
Marine. Cockburn Sound is on the doorstep and the local hardstands stay busy year round. Anti-foul removal is the bread and butter — layers of it, sometimes decades deep, off steel, alloy and fibreglass hulls. We also strip keels, running gear, rudders and prop shafts, and take steel hulls back to a coating standard where the specification calls for it. Because the process suppresses dust at the nozzle, the vessels in the neighbouring cradles keep working while we do it, which is usually what decides the job in a shared yard. See marine blasting.
Industrial. The Kwinana strip runs from Naval Base down to Wellard, and it is dense with tanks, pipework, structural steel and plant that all need periodic recoating. We work to site inductions, coating specifications and shutdown windows, with full containment and licensed disposal of spent media where the coating warrants it. Where the specification will not tolerate a damp substrate — inorganic zinc primers being the usual case — we blast dry and contain the dust instead. See refinery and industrial blasting.
Domestic. Between the two, the usual suburban mix: painted brick, limestone boundary walls, trailers, gates, ute trays and the occasional car shell.

Hardstand and marina work
Working on a hardstand has its own rhythm and it pays to plan for it.
- Book the slipway and the blaster together. Hardstand time is the expensive part. We sequence around your lift and launch dates so the vessel is not sitting there waiting on us.
- Anti-foul is regulated waste. Biocides in the coating mean the spent media cannot go to general fill. We contain, collect and dispose of it through a licensed facility, and that is priced into the quote rather than appearing later.
- Coat inside the window. Wet-blasted steel will flash rust. We apply an inhibitor as standard, which typically buys two to three days, but the coating still needs to follow. See flash rust, explained.
- Salt matters here. Anything that has lived in Cockburn Sound carries chloride contamination, which causes blistering under a new coating if it is not washed out. Wet blasting flushes salts as it works, which is a real advantage on coastal steel.

Do you work on the Rockingham hardstand?
Yes, it is one of our most regular runs. We do anti-foul removal, keel and running-gear work and steel hull preparation on the hardstand, with containment so neighbouring vessels can keep working. We bring our own water, power and abrasive.
Do you cover Kwinana industrial sites?
Yes. We work across the Kwinana strip to site inductions, coating specifications and shutdown windows, including full containment and licensed disposal of spent media. We hold public liability insurance and provide a certificate of currency on request.
Can you remove anti-foul without damaging the hull?
Yes. Pressure and abrasive grade are matched to the substrate, and we test-patch before committing. Wet blasting also keeps heat out of the plating, which is what prevents distortion on thinner steel and alloy hulls. Fibreglass is done at low pressure with a fine media.
What happens to the spent anti-foul media?
It is contained, collected and disposed of through a licensed waste facility. Anti-foul contains biocides, so it cannot go to general fill. That cost is included in the quote rather than added afterwards.
Do you charge extra to travel to Rockingham or Kwinana?

Can you blast dry if our coating spec requires it?
Yes. We run both wet and dry setups. Inorganic zinc primers and some tank linings will not accept a damp substrate, so those jobs are blasted dry with the dust contained instead. Send us the coating datasheet and we will match the process to it.
