What we blast in the Goldfields
Goldfields work is heavier, dirtier and harder on coatings than anything on the coast, and the jobs reflect that.
Mining plant and attachments. Buckets, rippers, grader blades, screening plant, conveyor framing, tank shells and undercarriage. Most of it arrives with a mix of mill scale, failed two-pack, red dust and grease baked on. This is often a dry blasting job rather than wet — heavy scale cuts faster dry, and where the coating system is an inorganic zinc the substrate has to stay dry anyway. We run both processes. Transport and haulage. Tipper bodies, float trailers, water tanks, service bodies and ute trays. Blasted, primed and returned ready for topcoat. See metal restoration.

How Goldfields jobs actually work
- We come on scheduled trips. Getting the rig to Kalgoorlie is a long haul, so we plan runs and fill them. Ask when the next one is — fitting into it is far cheaper than a dedicated trip.
- Batch aggressively. This is the single biggest thing you can do to control cost. Six items in one visit rather than one item six times over.
- Heat and water. Summer temperatures change how a wet-blasted surface behaves — it dries fast, which shortens some windows and helps others. Overnight in winter can approach freezing, which is one of the few times we will insist on dry blasting.
- Site inductions. Mine site work needs paperwork organised well ahead. We hold public liability insurance and supply certificates of currency and Safe Work Method Statements; allow lead time for the site\u2019s own process.
- Red dust is not the enemy you think. Surface dust blasts off easily. What actually drives the price is the coating underneath and how much scale is bonded to the steel.

Yes. Where the job requires Sa 2½ or a stated anchor profile, we work to it, take replica-tape profile readings across representative areas and provide the records. Tell us at quote stage, because documented preparation changes how the job is run.
Do you do wet or dry blasting in the Goldfields?
Both, chosen by the job. Heavy scale and moisture-sensitive coating systems such as inorganic zinc are blasted dry. Anything near occupied areas, thin panel, or heritage masonry in Boulder is blasted wet. The substrate and the coating datasheet decide it, not the equipment.

Yes, at very low pressure with a fine abrasive and always after a test patch. Century-old brick and stonework needs a gentle process — the aim is to remove paint without eroding the fired face of the brick or the surface of the stone.
